Franklyn Madden Ketchum, ’42

Born 9 October 1920 to Warren M and Charlotte E. Ketchum in Garden City, New York, “Frank” graduated from The Citadel with the Class of 1942.

1LT Ketchum was killed in action near Draguignan, France on D+1 during Operation Dragoon, the invasion of Southern France, while serving with the 142 Infantry Regiment, 36th Infantry Division.

A recipient of the Combat Infantry Badge, the Bronze Star Medal, and Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, 1LT Ketchum was interred in the temporary U.S. Military Cemetery at Draguignan, Saint Raphael, France.

The Quartermaster General selected this cemetery as one of the permanent cemeteries and it was renamed the Rhone American Cemetery and Memorial. At his family’s request Ketchum was permanently interred here and rests in eternal peace in Plot A, Row 4, Grave 15.
